Memorial TREES Program

"He who plants a tree plants hope." - Lucy Larcom

The planting of memorial TREES is an age old tradition throughout the world. TREES have always been recognized as Nature's best gift to humankind. The planting of TREES has always symbolized life, growth and hope for the future.

The gift of a tree can be given in memory or in honor of a life well lived and as a symbol of everlasting affection. TREES can be given in honor of a friendship, or an individual's invaluable service to the community, or to an organization or company.

Donating a tree is also a wonderful way to celebrate a graduation, wedding, anniversary, retirement, birthday, holiday or any special occasion.

TREES will be planted in a city or county park, or other public area. You may check a location, as tree variety preference on the Memorial TREES form. You may choose from among four shade trees (live oak, water oak, bald cypress, Chinese Pistache) or three flowering trees (redbud, flowering pear, and crape myrtle) adapted to our region. Four different colors of crape myrtles are also available.

Brazos County was designated a Crape Myrtle Capital by the Texas legislature in 1991 and citizens are encouraged to plant these beautiful, hardy and heat tolerant trees.

The crape myrtle was selected because of its exceptional beauty, low maintenance requirements and the way it blends into the overall landscaping theme. The live oak was selected because of its evergreen features and compatibility with existing trees or shrubs.
