Planting Tips

Pick a sunny location in well-drained soil. Sow seed in the early spring or fall. Loosen soil with a rake or hoe. Broadcast seed over prepared area. Lightly rake or press seed into soil. Some of the seed will remain visible. Keep soil moist until plants begin to grow.

  • When crushed the flower produces a citrus smell
  • It grows in height from 24 to 36 inches
  • It is a member of the Lamiaceae Family
  • It blooms in late spring/early summer
  • It grows from California to Florida as well as from Nebraska to Texas

  • Its height ranges between 12 to 24 inches
  • Blooms between March and May
  • Is a member of the Papilionaceae family
  • It is one of the five state flowers of Texas

  • Adopt as the state flower for Texas in 1901
